Beaches on Phuket

Phuket beaches can be found all over the Island. It is really a shame that many tourists in Phuket never leave their resort area and go and explore some of the great Phuket beaches that can be found on the island.

The beaches at the resort towns such as Patong beach and Karon beach have some of the least attractive beaches of Phuket.

If you would go and explore the island then you would find beautiful Phuket beaches such as Ya Nui beach or Bang Tao Beach.

So when visiting Phuket next time, please rent a motor bike or a jeep and go discover the real Phuket and the many nice Phuket beaches. There is so much more to this wonderful island then just Patong beach or Karon. You will find below an overview of the Phuket beaches that everyone should visit during their stay.

Patong Beach

Patong Beach is the main Phuket beach where the tourists spend their holiday. There are a large number of hotels in Patong and has the most developed infrastructure and offers the largest variety of shops, restaurants and Phuket nightlife venues.

The beach of Patong is not considered to be one of the nicest Phuket beaches. It depends on what you prefer however Patong beach is not among the cleanest or quietest beaches on the island. The water at Patong beach is not as clean and clear as elsewhere at other Phuket beaches.

The beach vendors in Patong can also be rather annoying as they continuously approach tourists with a variety of products and services which they are trying to push such as souvenirs and t-shirts. If you don’t want to be disturbed whilst lying on one of the Phuket beaches then the best solution is just too completely ignore them. As soon as you acknowledge them then they will keep pushing you for a sale.

Kamala Beach

Kamala beach is one of the more developed Phuket beaches. Kamala however has kept most its fishing village charm which attracted the first tourists in the first place. There are a limited number of hotels and resorts in Kamala and the resort area is a popular location for upscale real estate projects due to the great views these Phuket villas have over the Andaman Sea.

Kamala Beach is ideal for travellers visiting Phuket with their families and especially those with children. Kamala offers a number of great dining options and there a select number of shops along the beach road. Kamala Beach is not stuffed with bars and discos. Karon Beach & Kata Beach

Karon beach and Kata beach are ideal resort areas for families with children. Karon and Kata both have beaches where it is big enough for anyone to have some form of space and privacy.

On the beach of Patong you will see many people lying right next to each other due to lack of space. On the long sandy beaches of Karon and Kata this will surely not occur. The beach and water at Karon and is certainly also a lot cleaner than that of neighbouring Patong.

The prices in general for Phuket hotels and food and beverage venues are also cheaper than those found in Patong. Karon and Kata beach also have a somewhat more laid back night life scene with fewer bars and nightclubs. This is something especially families and couples prefer over wild and crazy Patong with its legendary party scene.

Surin Beach

Surin beach is the favourite beach among the Phuket expat community. The beach at Surin is rather long and is among the cleanest on the island. The water at Surin Beach is clean and there are a number of great beach restaurants along the beach for some real tasty food.

Some of the best Phuket seafood can be ordered at these lovely Phuket beach restaurants. The prices you will find here are among the cheapest found at any of the Phuket  beaches.

There are only a few hotels build in the Surin beach area which is why many tourists haven’t yet discovered this lovely relaxing Phuket beach. There are a large number of upscale residential projects that have been constructed or are still being constructed on Phuket. Surin beach offers potential residents some of the nicest apartments and villas on Phuket.
